The first question many will ask is, "Is this for real?" I have to
respond with a resounding, "Yes!" This music CD is distributed by GNP Crescendo,
a small, but legitimate recording label. One of the other bands handled by Crescendo
is The Ventures. Boomers will remember The Ventures from the Beach Boys era of the
early '60s. They had several big hits, such as Wipeout, Pipeline, and Telstar.
They're definitely legit, and so is GNP Crescendo. If they're publishing Neil Norman,
then he must be for real, too.
Sidra:
Yeah, they've been on "House of Blues!"
Paul:
We both liked this CD a lot. Which cuts did you like best, Sid?
Sidra:
I'm not sure. Its really a toss-up between "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai,"
"Conquest of The Thaxton Nebula," and "Star Trek Encounters."
Paul:
I liked the "Monster Zero March" best, myself. That one's way cool.
Sidra:
(Laughs) That's the one where you said you could see the monsters doing the Hokey-Pokey
on Tokyo!
Paul:
Yeah! I also liked all the old TV show themes, like "Wild, Wild West" and
"The Saint." Really took me back!
Sidra:
You forgot "The Outer Limits," though that is from the new series.
Paul:
For those of you out there wondering about the technical details, as an ex-musician
I'll give you the low-down. The sound quality is excelent, as you would expect from
a professional recording company. Neil has a five-piece band and a full-complement
studio orchestra. You might think that that many musicians would be hard to manage,
but they're really tight! Sounds great!
Sidra:
And they're available for gigs all over the world!
Paul:
Yeah, anybody out there who has a big convention should consider hiring Neil
Norman and His Cosmic Orchestra. You could dance to things like "Thaxton
Nebula" and "Monster Zero March!"
Although we couldn't find any place on the GNP Crescendo website to book the band,
they did have a list of his appearances at
http://www.gnpcrescendo.com/neildates.html.
If you dropped them an E-mail (gnp@pacificnet.net) or
gave them a ring ( 213-656-2614 ), then I'm sure they could tell you how to book him.
