Movie Review: 8mm

by Jamie Coville

This movie stars Nicholas Cage, who plays a private detective for the rich and powerful. One of his clients comes across a snuff film and contacts Cage to find out if it's authentic or fake. Cage then does his investigation and ends up in the world of underground pornography. We meet a bunch of perverts throughout the film, some good, some evil, some freaky, and so on. I liked this movie, I didn't find anything horribly wrong with the acting or the story, and it did make me think a bit after the it was over. The only complaint I have is the cigarette advertisement within it. But for some odd reason I don't have the urge to scream about how great the film is. The writer of this film also wrote Se7en, so I can't help compare it to that film. Overall I'd have to rate 8mm a notch or two below Se7en. Since I think Se7en was a great film, 8mm was a good film. So one way or another, go see it.
