Oh my God oh my God oh my God oh my God...I'm blown away...speechless.
Can we say terrific? Can we say a complete one-eighty turn from where
Legion was? For years now I have been whining about the happy-go-lucky,
blase story lines Legion has been printing...today I got what I've been
asking for.
Where to start? No more terminally perky Legion. From the first
panel, you are plunged into something almost straight from a William Gibson
novel. No this is not a sign of bad writing...this is highly acceptable
as long as they rip off good Sci Fi, I have no problems with them.
Now, the second they borrow from Roger Zelazny's Creatures of Light and
Darkness, I'll run screaming in the opposite direction, but until
then, I'm perfectly cool with it.
Darkness, filth, and grit all are omnipresent in the first issue of the
Legion of the Damned. One thing the authors have proved in this first
issue is, they are not adverse to killing relatively popular characters.
Now as El Vice Presidente Cosmic Boy Death League, I must put in the
request that if they're killing off characters, they must take Cosmic Boy
down. There is no excuse for them not to! :D
The gravity presented in this issue hasn't been written since pre-boot
Legion. This is the BEST Legion plot line since reboot. I am so
enamored of this series by this just one book. I guarantee it is more
than worth picking up.
Legion of the Damned is absolutely phenomenal. The story is original,
and the tone that the authors have set for the story is mind numbing.
The art isn't pretty, but it's highly effective with the tone and the
mood of the book. If you have ever read Legion and liked it you MUST
buy this series! Go to your comic shop NOW!!!! Don't just sit there!
GO!!!!
