Do not let the title deceive you. Bloodlust is not a cheap knock-off of Vampirella. In fact, they have absolutely nothing in common.

Bloodlust is an Ex-Punk-Rock band turned Vampire Mystique band. The lead singer/lead guitarist has the whole Victor/Victoria thing going; he's a vampire pretending to be a human pretending to be a vampire. The opening to this highly entertaining series begins in my hometown Houston, TX. More specifically, it starts at a gig in the Astrodome (side note: For those of you who don't know what the Astrodome is, the Astrodome was the first domed baseball stadium. When first built, it was heralded as the Eighth Wonder of the World. It also houses concerts and the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo).

Bloodlust's gigs contain numerous special effects, and this night there is a murder attempt made on the lead singer Cooper Young. The attempt fails and kills Coop's best friend and the band's drummer Jack. Why on earth would anyone want to kill Bloodlust's lead singer? No, it's not the Christian Right enraged at his gig; that's not part of the plot. This is not just a murder attempt; this is an assassination attempt. Apparently, there is a vampire hierarchy in town and it is lead by a man named Bandings. Bandings knows all the vampires, except Coop. Deacon, a fellow band member and the real brains behind the whole Bloodlust routine, has kept Coop's nature a secret and is busy trying to keep Coop alive.

With a dead drummer Bloodlust can't play the next night's gig, or so Coop thought. Deacon has a replacement waiting in the wings, and he has his own special little nature. The new drummer's name is Graeme, and he's a werewolf.

As you can see this is a unique set up and I'm certainly not going to tell you anymore, because you need to pick it up yourself and read it. Bloodlust is FANTASTIC. It's an original mixture of seriousness and humor that is absolutely exciting to read.

The art fits the ambiance and creatures of the night setting perfectly.

You owe yourself the opportunity to read this unique and entertaining comicbook. If you think this review was interesting, stay tuned next month for my review of Bloodlust #2 - a story about Graeme.
