Jersey Devil #10 begins with a group of vagabonds (perchance thieves). One of them is named J.D. short for Jersey Devil. There is one new guy who has never heard the story of how the Jersey Devil became famous. Thus proceeds the tale of the faux Jersey Devil created in 1909 during the big boom in the freak show market.

The story from a historical standpoint is highly interesting, but as an independent story for fascination is a little lacking. The story of the vagabonds is much more enticing, which makes the next issue look very desirable, because it appears that it may focus on the group of characters. The art is absolutely beautiful. The faux Jersey Devil looks kinda scary especially given what it really is.

All and all I'd say that Jersey Devil # 10 is a disappointment after Jersey Devil #9, which had a brilliantly written independent story. The art is still gorgeous, but Jersey Devil #10 strikes me as a sheer excuse to use some of the folklore that just didn't work out as well as it could have.
