What the hell is up with Diamond Distribution? I don't know about all
you guys down south in the ol' U S of A, but up here ( as I write this of
course ), we have yet to receive a single unit of the McFarlane Toys'
Movie Maniacs series 3. These things SUPPOSEDLY shipped at
Diamond 3 frikkin weeks ago! I call my comic store guy and all he has to say is
"Well you know Diamond, you never know when stuff is gonna come
in!". What kind of crap is that?! Is it shipping or isn't it?!
This is not the first time either. Everytime a new issue of LENORE ships
from the offices from Slave Labor, it seems that Diamond decides they are
going to take weeks ( and in one case, months ) before my store sees a
single sign of it. Now granted, this might be because it's a store in
Canada, and of course, Diamond is a U.S. business and will service fellow
U.S. businesses first, but man! What is up with under-ordering and super
long delays when we follow THEIR rules and place our orders 2 freaking
months in advance????
Don't get me wrong, in my opinion, the wait for the action figure, or that
next issue of a comic you've been dying for is part of the excitement.
Just look at Star Wars ( Please! no Episode I naysayers, I'm just using it
as an example ), part of the excitement of Episode I was waiting for it to
come out. But when you read "OKAY! it's OUT!" you run to the store
only to have them tell you "Sorry... diamond hasn't shipped yet" and then it
drags on for weeks at a time... you get pretty damn angry. Then to add insult to
injury, you go online and some guy in the middle of nowhere, got a
delivery from somewhere OTHER than diamond, and is reading the issue
as you talk to him telling you how great it is... and for a minute, you don't
know whether you want to curse him and all his children... or pat him on
the back for dealing with someone who DOESN'T deal with Diamond
Distribution.
To be fair, Diamond offers a LOT of great stuff in a central location,
comics, t-shirts, toys, statuettes, etc.... I just wish they could get
better organized to keep up with inventory demands. Guess they don't
feel they need to since they almost have a freaking monopoly over the comics
distribution business... unless you're willing to sell your left kidney to
be able to afford buying from American Entertainment.
Here's the lengthy delays....
