"If you break the law, you die!"

This is the motto of the vigilantes of Operation Purge. Ten years ago a mayor vowed to clean up the city. Ten years ago he was assassinated, and hope has been dead ever since that day. The Church and the Mafia rule the city with a harsh hand and corruption. Now a group of citizens have taken justice into their own hands and become vigilantes. Between the corruption of the church and the ruthless " justice " of the vigilantes there is a good cop, Jasmine Shani.

Operation Purge issue number one is a good set up of the city and a good glancing introduction to the characters of the book. I can’t really tell where the main plot is going from here. All I know is the set up is decent and shows much promise. You don’t really get much of a feel for the main characters in the first issue, but that's because there's an extensive establishment of the city and the environment of the city. The world is about as gloomy as the world of Transmetropolitian, but the plot directions between the two are completely different. The first issue also concentrates on the brutality and remorseless killing of the vigilantes.

Overall, I say there is a good chance that this will be a stellar series. The fullness of the universe is great; if the plot is anywhere near as thorough it will be a fabulous series. But, due to the set up that has to occur for the city environment, there really isn’t enough of a plot to tell how good the overall book is. If it sounds interesting to you, you should definitely make the effort to pick Operation Purge #1 up.
