Budget Strips #2 - The Bet

This issue of Budget Strips is deeply entertaining. The two main characters get into a argument about the down sides of cigarettes, and one points out to the other that he's overweight, which also has its bad side effects. Thus, they bet each other that one of them can't lose thirty pounds in thirty days and the other can't stop smoking for thirty days. Both of them turn out to be broke and their significant others get angry, because if they lose they're gonna ask them for the money. Thus the girls take it upon themselves to keep the guys adhering to their deal, and the mayhem then ensues in fine farce.

The art is wonderfully cartoony and fits the characters and story perfectly. At several times in the course of the book, the panel that the drawing is in catches fire. The book covers the very first day of this bet, and then implies from there that the rest of the days were about the same. Great comic timing, and the understanding of how to set up a comedic story is fully understood by this book’s creators. It is an absolute joy to read. You should definitely pick it up and watch two people determined to win their bet by the other person losing their bet first. The cycle of cheating on the bet and trying to hide it reaches phenomenal levels in the course of this book.

This is the second time we’ve seen these gentlemen at a Texas convention this year. They’re great guys and they’re very talented creators. You should go see for yourselves. To purchase Budget Strips books and Budget Strips paraphernalia go to their website at www.budgetstrips.com
