Hello. I saw your website and am wondering where you found the infamous mechanical bull. I also have a friend coming to visit in Houston and he desperately wants to ride a mechanical bull. If you remember the name of the place, could you please pass it on to me? I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Krissy Quan

Hi Krissy!

The mechanical bull is located at G's Icehouse in Deer Park, Texas. It's 5 dollars a ride. G's Icehouse is located on the Highway 225 at the San Jacinto Monument exit. G's Icehouse is in the phone book and you can call them for detailed instructions.

Do 1930's Donald Duck have any value or should I toss them? Also 1960's Mad Magazines?

I would be grateful for your input.

Thank You. BJ.

Hi BJ!

For your Donald Duck comics, I have the Overstreet Price Guide. Your 1930's Donald Ducks, depending on condition and issue number, range in value from $311 to $3000 apiece.

There is a market for Mad Magazines, I see them at every convention I go to. I don't have a price guide for them, so your best bet is to go over to www.ebay.com and run a search on Mad Magazines. There are currently over 50 auctions featuring Mads, and you can track them and get an idea of what they are selling for.

    Good Luck!

G. Setzer

Greetings!

You sent me quite an extensive list, and my jaw was on the floor looking at these over inflated prices. I needed a new copy of the Overstreet Price Guide, the oldest and most reliable comic price guide in the market, so your email motivated me to get out there and get one. Let's take a look at some of these listed prices, and some of the real values of the comics.

Listed by a dealer I don't want to give any promotion to Overstreet listed value
Sabre Tooth (1994) #1-3 $350/set $3.00 apiece or $12.00/set
Punisher 2099 #1-12 $1200/set $2.00 apiece or $24.00/set
Warlock & The Infinity Watch
#1-#14 $1900/set

#1 $3.00 #2-14 $2.00 or $29/set
Venom:The Mace
#1-#3 $400/set
$3.00 apiece or $12.00/set

Are you seeing a pattern here? Shop around, this isn't anyone that I would buy from.

    Thanks for writing!

Selling Old Comic Books

Hi,

My brother-in-law has about 2500 old comic books he is interested in selling. He wants to know of any stores in South Dakota that buy and sell them. Do you know of any?

D. Andera, Yankton, SD

Hi!

I don't know any stores off hand in South Dakota that buy and sell comics. Your brother in law would be better off selling them himself. I suggest you read my article I wrote that you should find helpful. It's located at:

Picture Stories from The Bible

I have a 1943 edition published by Bible Pictures Inc. Ltd. East St. Oadby, Leicester, England. Can you tell me its worth? I was told that a People Magazine article appeared over 20 years ago and indicated that these books were worth a considerable amount of money.

Larry Gould

Hi Larry!

First off, I must apologize for being so late in replying. You happened to catch me when I was in the process of recovering from surgery.

I cannot find the British Edition of your book listed in my price guide. The 1943 American Edition is worth $225 in near mint condition. I suspect that if you are selling your copy in the US, your copy would be worth more, due to it being from another country, but I cannot speculate how much more it would be worth.

Good luck, and thanks for being patient!

Hi prisonnursey!

I apologize for this email being so late, but unfortunately, you wrote at a time where I was recovering from surgery.

Toy Story #1 and #2 aren't listed in the latest edition of the Overstreet Price Guide, nor can I find it on the Wizardworld online price guide. I did, however, find both issues for sale on ebay in a package. There are 2 days to go, and there is one $1 bid on them. You can track it yourself at:

    Good luck!

Strange Tales No. 4

    From: "RODERICK WILLIAM EYNON" <taffy@kooee.com.au>
    Subject: Strange Tales No. 4
    Date sent: Mon, 18 Jun 2001 21:01:45 +1000

Hi,

I am from Australia and have been trying to find out whether an old Strange Tales comic is worth anything. My family had kept a box of comics for years and I ended up with them, a lot are from the 60's and 70's, this particular one I can not seem to find anywhere it is Strange tales No. 4 The Impossible Man, it was printed in Australia, it looks like the early 1960's as it has the old shilling price. It is in very good condition for its age. Script: Stan Lee. Art: Jack Kirby. Inking Dick Ayers. Lettering: Art Simek.

The No. 4 American comic I have seen seems to be different than this one. Could you perhaps fill me in on how this is. Also I can not seem to find anything on the Impossible Man. If you could spare some time to reply that would be wonderful, thanks,
Sheridan.

Hi Sheridan!

I do love challenging questions! I had to do some investigating with other staff members on this one. The best guess we have is that you may have the Australian/British copy of the American Fantastic Four #11, which featured The Impossible Man. If that is the first Australian (or British) version of FF #11, I can tell you the value of the American comic as listed in the Overstreet Price Guide: Near Mint, it is worth $775 American, in Fine, it is worth $166, and in Good, it is worth $55. This is assuming it is the comic, not some reprint of that comic that came out in the 70's sometime. Here in the US, Marvel reprinted some of it's 60's comics during the 70's under various titles. You can probably determine when your comic was printed in fine print somewhere on the inside of the comic. That should give you an idea of whether you have a first printing, or some reprint.

Marvel and DC reprint Amercian comics for foreign markets in different formats, and sometimes under different titles. I really can't tell you why it's done that way sometimes, but it's been a common business practice for years. Maybe they think that the comics sell better under different formats in other countries. For example, I know that 3 or 4 comics of one title are combined into one big comic and sold that way in Scandinavia.

On to The Impossible Man! He is a character that is green and can change shape, and is utilized as a recurring comic relief type character who gives heroes trouble when he gets bored. He's even had a couple of Annuals of his own!

I hope I have been helpful!
