No new reports on the Star Wars front for this month., but you can be
sure I have some Transformers news. As most all of us know,
Transformers is going to be back with a new line of toys, as well as a new
cartoon. This time it is not going to be computer generated animals or
computer generated animals/vehicles; this time it is going back to the
original style of vehicles. This makes me so vary happy because I was
not to enthusiastic with the Beast Wars and Beast Machines lines that have
been put out. Look for the leaders to be called Optimus Prime and Megatron.
Plus, we'll see some of the original autobots return like Prowl and
Mirage. You can look for the toys to start hitting the shelves some time
in the fall when the new cartoon series is released on Fox Kids, or if you
are really antsy to see what some of them look like, you can go to a local
import dealer or a toy convention in your area.
The oi vey of the month goes to the rumor mongers that have started the
rumors of the next GI Joe action figure line. They say that it might
include: Flint, Lady Jaye, Tracker, Leatherhead (might be some weird
combo of Beachead and Leatherneck), Zartan, Cobra Infantry Trooper, Dr.
Mindbender (I never liked his character) and Android Viper (more than
likely a B.A.T. Reapint). Hasbro needs to understand that collectors like
both figures and vehicles, and need to come out with some that people
would like. I personally would like to see a new WHALE Hovercraft,
Moray Hydrofoil, Skystriker, Rattler and lots more. The re-release of the
Dragonfly under the name Locust was a good start, but could we find
another color of plastic to cast it in?
Another month, another bunch of Simpsons information. It looks like
Playmates has released what is going to be in their first line of the year
2002. Look for the likes of Mrs. Krabappel, Cletus the Slack Jawed Yokel,
Dolph the Bully (I'm not sure which of the three he is), Officer Lou (I
think he's the black police officer), Officer Marge (a Marge outside a
playset? Unbelieveable) and Hans Moleman. Yes, Hans is going to be
available as a single, since not a lot of stores liked the idea of the huge
Main Street Playset. The playsets that should be out around the same
time include a Krusty Burger with a Pimply-Faced Teen figure (also supposed
to be a figure in the Main Street Playset) and a Simpsons Kitchen/Dining
Room playset with the absolutely revolting Muumuu Homer figure. For those of
you who cannot wait that long, starting in about late November, there
will be a Christmas themed living room playset that will be a Toys R Us
exclusive. This will probably be kind of like the one that they put out for
Halloween 2000. It will have Homer as Santa, Bart in a Santa hat and Lisa
riding Santa's Little Helper figures along with a Christmas tree and
holiday phrases. And going to October 2001, look for a life-size Krusty
the Clown doll based on the Evil Krusty doll from one of the Treehouse
of Horror episodes. It will have an evil voice chip and Good/Evil switch on
the back. Lastly, for those of you who need a Simpsons toy fix NOW! go
down to your local Electronics Boutique in August and pick up the
Radioactive Man & Fallout Boy two pack of figures. The retail for the two
is $29.99.
It looks like someone managed to wrangle the X-Files license away from
McFarlane Toys. Moore Action Collectables [MAC] has the license now
and is hopefully working on new figures as we speak. I would really like to see a
couple of new versions of Dana Scully; one in her FBI garb and one in
her doctor garb. While on the subject of MAC, they will have three variation
figures from their Buffy the Vampire Slayer line and one from their
Futurama line. The Cheerleader Cordelia figure is going to be an exclusive
through the online toy retailer actionfigureexpress.com or in a boxed set
with Xander and normal Cordelia through Musicland stores. Vampire
Spike and Military Xander will be available through Diamond Distributors (your
comic store,) as will be the Chef Bender figure. Look for them sometime
this Summer.
The toys based on summer movies keep coming out. This time it is a line
of 12 inch action figures based on the movie "Final Fantasy
the Spirits Within." There will be six figures, four of which we have
names for. There will be Commander Gray, Jane Proudfoot (a Toys R Us
exclusive), Aki Ross and an Alien. They should be out in time for the
movie.
Jakks Pacific has three new lines coming out. First is the Bash 'N' Trash
Bone Crushers. These are based on the figures that they
stopped making in 1999. They will have various points for you to crush
and stand about six inches tall. They will have HHH, The Rock, Kurt Angle,
Chris Jericho and The Undertaker. Next up are the Back Talking Slammers.
These are supposed to be a step up from the Back Talking Crushers they
put out about a year ago. The figures of Stone Cold Steve Austin and The
Rock and maybe others should be in stores now. Lastly is the full-body real
scan figures. These figures should be out some time in the fall and should
be really dead on likenesses of the wrestlers they scanned. First up will
be Jeff Hardy, D'Von Dudley and two others yet to be named.
DC Direct has finally come out with release months for their various new
figures. The Superman/Lois Lane two pack will be out in November along
with three figures from the Sandman line (Delirium, Daniel and Desire).
The Green Arrow/Speedy two-pack Wildcat, Power Girl and Soloman
Grundy figures will be out in December.
That's all for this month. See you next month.
