Comic Bookmarks by Jeff Valentine

As promised last month, we're going to focus on artists' sites this time around. Unlike writers however, it appears that artists don't go around creating or maintaining sites that are dedicated to their work (except for two which we'll get to in a few minutes). Not to worry though, as there are plenty of sites that are run by fans that are just as good.

Probably the most popular artist in the industry right now would be Alex Ross. On this official site, you can find all the latest news and artwork that Mr. Ross is involved with. The site showcases all of his published comic book work as well as special items such as busts and commemorative plates he has created. You can also purchase original artwork or bid on some gorgeous pieces in the latest auction, if you care to take a loan on your house to cover it.

Things That Make You Go AH! is a fantastic site dedicated to the equally fantastic Adam Hughes. Here you can find every cover he has ever done, pin-ups, cards and, my personal favorite, convention sketches that other fans have contributed.

Travis Charest is an artist I greatly admire and really wish he were doing something on a regular basis. In the meantime, I visit this site to get my "Charest fix". Along with the normal items such as past work and sketches, you can find original pieces that Travis himself has contributed to the site.

Earlier I mentioned two sites that the artist actually created and maintains. You'd think that would mean we'd get to see some stuff that we wouldn't be able to find anywhere else. But unfortunately, both Peter Snejbjerg and John McCrea's sites are a major disappointment. These guys really need to take a look at some of these fan sites and see how it's done. Neither artist even includes a cover gallery, let alone sketches or anything else that really shows off their creative talent.

Well, that's it for this month, but I'd like to thank everyone for all the feedback I've been receiving. I'd also like to ask that, if you're dropping a line anyway, why not include a site that you really like to visit. If enough people respond, I'll do a column dedicated to those sites and give credit where credit is due.

Until next month, happy surfing.
