Toy Story by Mathew Bredfeldt

Toy Chest

Here's the latest in the world of toys. Hopefully this finds all of you safe and dry.

It looks like the many fingered hand of McFarlane Toys has gotten another popular license. This time they managed to wrestle away The Matrix license from whoever had it and is not only going to produce figures from the next two films, but the first one as well.

Toy Biz has the first line coming out for The Two Towers, the second movie in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, coming out in October. Look for returning main characters Legolas, Gandolf and Aragorn as well as the EVIL Saruman. New charaters will include Faramir, Gondorian Soldier, Easterling, King Theoden, Eomer, Rohirrim Soldier and Grima Wormtongue.

Hasbro has two more statues to add to their Unleashed line. Look for a Darth Tyranus spewing blue force lightning from a hand, and Mace Windu from the arena scene with his robes on fire. I've seen the first offerings from the Unleashed line, and if these two are anything like those that I have seen, then they sure have a hit on their hands.

While on the subject of Hasbro, the latest offerings from Transformers: Armada may have the names of some old favorites, but they are not exactly the same. Of course any Transformers line would not be complete without a Optimus Prime, this time back in his old tractor trailer version. There's also that movie staple Blurr, this time as a race car as opposed to the old car of the future that he was in the movie. There's Jetfire, who is now a space shuttle rather then a Veritch fighter, and Scavenger, which is a dark neon green bulldozer.

Hasbro's third offering this month is from their GI Joe vs. Cobra line. As I have mentioned before, they have gone back to putting the O-rings to hold the figures together. Look for old classics such as Snake Eyes, Baroness and Cobra Commander along side some oldies like Blowtorch, Beach Head, Flint, Snow Serpent and the guy Joe fans loved to hate, Dr. Mindbender.

Toynami is probably putting out the best looking Hanna-Barbera figures that have been put out in quite a while. This set is based on the Herculoids cartoon from the 1960's. There's the human trio of Tara, Dorno and Zander, the three creatures Tundro, Zok and Igoo, and the amorphus pair of Gloop and Gleep. Look for these figures some time in the next few months.

Playmates has two more exclusive Simpsons playsets out in time for the Holidays. First is the KBBL radio station with two figures, Bill and Marty. This one looks to be a Diamond exclusive, so go ask your local comic store about getting you one. The other is the long overdue Moe's Tavern with Duff Man action figure. This one is a Electronics Boutique exclusive and should be out in December.

That's all for this month. Look for more toy goodness from me next month.

As always, questions, comments or cash can be sent to me at the address above.
