Toy Chest

By: Mathew Bredfeldt Mathew_Bredfeldt@nospamhotmail.com

Well it looks like that some information is being leaked out to writers before the big international toy fair in a few months. Here's some of what I have learned about.

In the spring, proving the best thing comes to those that wait, Art Asylum is putting out their Lord of the Rings MiniMates. The characters will have three different bodies. For the small characters, such as the Hobbits, they will use a 2-inch body that is the same size as their Marvel MiniMates. Large characters, like Sauron, will use a 3-inch body like the original MiniMates. For normal sized characters and Orcs and Uruk-Hai, they have designed a special in-between body for them. All characters will have detailed outfits and weapons so they will be accessorized to the hilt.

The pictures for this next line have been out for a while but very little has been known about when they would come out. Now I have a little more information. Due out this summer for the Transformers Alternators line is two favorites from the first generation. Those two are Hound and Silverstreak (aka Bluestreak). Hound looks great in vehicle mode, but is lacking in robot mode with his oversized feet and something that looks like shields on the sides of his legs.

Also due out for the Transformers, this time in the spring, for the Transformers Energon line are three figures. These three are: Rodimus, which looks like some sort of messed up semi-cab; Mirage, which looks like a futuristic battle boat in vehicle mode; and Arcee, which looks like a futuristic motorcycle in vehicle mode. By far the best looking of the three is Mirage in both vehicle and robot mode.

This month has a second set of Star Wars: Clone Wars figures based on the five-minute animated shorts that Cartoon Network ran late last year. These are pretty good likenesses of all the characters from the cartoon. The four figures in this set are Count Dooku, Clone Trooper, Yoda and Durge. All of these are exclusive to Target Stores.

The spring has a lot of releases for the regular Star Wars line. These include Captain Antilles, General Dodonna, TIE Fighter Pilot and Gold Leader. Also there will be figure multi-packs of Jedi Warriors and a Skirmish of Carkoon sets. These will be Toys R Us exclusives. There will also be action figures that come with drinking cups based on the movies. These will be Target exclusives.

That's all for this month if you have any questions, comments or article ideas by all means feel free to e-mail me at the address above. Just remove the "nospam" in the address.
