So, I dug this comic out of a pile of comics in my
room. I looked at it, and thought the front
looked interesting enough. Sat down to really
read it and saw it was free. So, I flipped
through the book to make sure I had a full story
and not some piecemeal ashcan. I then flipped
over the comic and looked at the back page-Bible
comics. "Hmmm . . ." I thought to myself. I fully
expected an amateurishly drawn, chest thumping,
preachy comic book that had no real entertainment
value. I must say I was pleasantly surprised to
find I was wrong. This comic actually has a
story and subtlety. Yes, there is a little
evangelism in it, but for the most part it's about
a guy who is discounted by all the other heroes
because he can't do GREAT feats like they can. In
reality, he's much more of a hero than they are
because his motives are right. He's in it to help
people, not because it's the chest thumping
"right" thing to do, not because he's strong and
he can, not because it's what all the cool kids
are doing and not because he wants to be a role
model. In the end, he sacrifices himself to save
the city while all the heroes who looked down
their noses at him worry and fret and try to
figure out what to do. This man leads by
example, and actually I think that's a truly great
message. I was deeply impressed. You can check
