WHAT I CARE TO SEE

SPIDER-MAN 2

Why wasn't this called "The Amazing Spider-man" after all? I don't know. Marketing, I guess. In any case, this one makes a fine addition to its predecessor. The digital effects have come just that much farther to make swinging Spidey look that much better ( where there was a bit of unrealistic fuzziness in the first one ) and Doctor Octavius was played wonderfully by Alfred Molina. ( i.e. He thankfully didn't sound like Snidley Whiplash ). They even threw in a few scenes that could have been taken right out of the comic books ( Peter walking away from the suit in a trash can, Spidey swinging overhead from a bottom up view with onlookers looking up ).

The main concern is that the Dawson's Creek-esque teen drama aspect of it was a little long winded. True, that what has always set Spidey apart from many others is the fact that he's always been that young boy with real problems. But they really decided to concentrate on the relationship, which I don't entirely disagree with, but as I said… it was quite drawn out. Other than that, once the action starts up with Dr. Octopus, it doesn't give much time to stop. And to top it all off, a nice little preview of potential things to come ( a good comic-style "To be continued" ).
