We went to The Lord of the Rings Exhibit while on vacation. It featured a lot of conceptual artwork, props, and costuming used for the filming of the 3 movies.

Much to my amazement, the costumes looked much nicer in person than they did on film. It made me wonder what Peter Jackson was doing with the lighting. Arwen's riding outfit was beautiful in suede, yet it comes off nondescript in the film. Galadriel's white beaded costume is perfectly stunning in person, but appears almost featureless in the film.

There were some nice little interactive exhibits, too. One could stand on a certain place, and it would tell you what Race of Middle Earth one was. Sidra was a tall hobbit, Paul a man, and I was a dwarf. One exhibit showed how a person was animated on film, and we also got to see how Paul would look if he was one of the stone Kings of the Argonath. We also got to see how forced perspective worked and had a photo taken of the finished product.

All in all, it was an enjoyable exhibit, and it was great to see a lot of the props used in real life.
