Infinite Kung Fu #1

Review By Jamie Coville

Infinite Kung Fu #1
Story and Art: Kagan McLeod
Publisher: Great Lakes Ninja Brotherhood
Price: USA $3.00, CAN $4.50

I got this at the Toronto Comicon earlier this summer. It's a black and white comic with a black ninja dude fighting zombies. He meets up with a hermit who he revealed as a ninja master. The master takes him as a student. We get introduced to Yang Lei Kung, learn of his story. The master tells us about some mystical stuff and has a quest to get the Master a new body. His original body was burned and he's now inside the body of a zombie. I found the dialogue to be natural, the story tries to end on a what looks like a cliffhanger, but it's not one.

The art is stylistic and unique. The story flows smoothly, but Kagan does use some different layouts that can throw off some readers. I think the inking can be improved a bit as despite the use of thick and thin lines, things tend to mesh too closely.

Also interesting is the back page where Kagan reviews a bunch of non-Bruce lee kung fu movies. He tells us which actors were better and worse and gives ratings to six movies. This in itself really gets you into the whole Kung-Fu aspect of the comic, it's clear Kagan has a strong love for this stuff and it really shows.

I give the comic a 3.5 out of 5. If you are looking for something different, give this a try.
