When I walked into the small press section of Wizard World Chicago, one of the first comics that caught my eye was Max Hamm: Fairy Tale Detective. The cover was styled something like a children's golden book and this caught my attention for some reason or another. I bought the first one and after reading it I wish I'd bought all four in spite of the proliferation of puns.

The story follows an anthropomorphic pig detective, who's partner Humpty Dumpty has just been murdered. What was the name of their detective agency you might ask, well you might not but I'm going to tell you anyway, Hamm and Eggs Detective Agency. This should give you an idea of what the puns and play on words are like in the book.

Despite looking like a children's golden book, this is not a book for children. This is a parody book for their parents or anyone who's ever read a lot of fairy tales. It's a tongue-in-cheek noire detective tale in a slightly dirty story tale land. The art is very cute. For the flashback sequences the art has a more shaded and illustrated look to it. Overall it was just a great comic and I encourage everyone to go check out the website http://www.cammuso.com and if you like what you see there, you should definitely pick up the book.
