LEMONY SNICKET: A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS
For those of you who've read the book, you are
already familiar with the concept. These are a series of stories
that are not happy. That are not about flowery
little elves or particularly happy endings, or
heart warming events.
That being said however, they've managed to weave
a linear tale based on three of the novels; Wrapping the first
around the second and third. Of course the stories
are fairly abridged compared to the books, but
unlike Lord of the Rings, or even Harry Potter,
the Series of Unfortunate Events books are quite
small, by comparison.
One thing that has to be noted is the truly
twisted scenery. Anyone who has played the computer game
"MYST" or seen a Terry Gilliam film, will see the
similarities in surreal machines and odd
landscapes ( like Aunt Josephine's precariously
balanced house ). Jim Carey delivers as the
hateable/transformable Count Olaf and the kids are
wonderfully cast.
Despite the slightly ( and I do say slightly )
heart warming, always-look-on-the-bright-side ending, The film
does deliver the feel of the books and presents
itself well, as a whole story independent from the books
at the same time.
