We managed to sneak out from AggieCon to go see Frank Miller's Sin City. I wanted to see the movie for several reasons, but mostly because of the bitching from the critics about the movie being misogynistic.
All I can say is, yeah, the female characters are mostly hookers, but they are all hookers with weapons and control. Where's the misogyny? Yes, the characters are sex workers, but this movie is called "Sin City." Buy a clue.
The effects are really cool. The black and white film that blends to selective color in appropriate spots really captures the flavor of the comic book. It also tones down a lot of blood spattering violence in the movie.
And this movie is violent . . . relentlessly violent. I had to cover my eyes for most of the last 30 minutes because the violence is so draining.
All in all, it was enjoyable . . . but if you are squeamish, it's best to stay away.
Although watching Frodo play a serial killer cannibal is almost worth the price of admission by it's self.
