WHAT I CARE TO SEE

CHICKEN LITTLE

Delving into the world of full scale computer animation for the first time, Walt Disney Pictures hopes to establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with in this domain. Especially since Pixar does not seem likely to negotiate a new contract with them for next year ( though some say that's still not fully out of the question ). Many financial eyes have been on this movie ever since Disney announced that they were shutting down most of their hand drawn animation studios. And the movie is… okay. But it's not the big show stopping blockbuster they are hoping for. ( i.e. it's no Toy Story ,Bug's life, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, for example ).

That being said, it is a fun movie with some great vocal talents ( including Zach Braff as the title character ) and a few good laughs. It just falls short of giving the ooohs and aaaahs. For me, I hope this resounds somewhere at Disney and shows them once and for all that it has nothing to do with the MEDIUM used ( Hand Drawn vs CGI ), but the imaginative process that goes on behind it. Lilo and Stitch, for example, was completely hand drawn ( with watercolour painted backgrounds ) and it was an excellent film. Hopefully, they will come to their senses in this new post-Michael Eisner era.
