Toy Chest

By: Mathew Bredfeldt Mathew_Bredfeldt@nospamhotmail.com

This month I'm going to ask a question to those of you out there that read this article. The question is what was your most memorable toy that you ever got for the Holidays?

For this month I'm going to go back to Christmas 1988. I'm in the 6th grade, and Santa brings me the Best GI Joe vehicle I had gotten ever. He brought me the Phantom X-19 Jet fighter with Ghostrider pilot. I spent the better part of an hour listening to the radio and putting it together. I played with it for a while before it got put away outside and I totally forgot where it was. Then about 5 years later I dug it up, since that was about the time I came up with the harebrained scheme to open a GI Joe 3.75" museum dedicated to the line from 1982-1993. I still have that scheme in the back of my mind and things pop up from time to time about the cool ideas I could do to put it into action. In 1995, the Phantom X-19 was stolen from the box where I kept it outside by a neighbor kid who had no idea what it meant to me. I know it was a toy and all that, but when your big gift holiday is Christmas, you consider everything sacred.

I guess I can go out on the Internet now and get one from an Auction site like E-Bay, but that will never replace that feeling I had when I got it for the first time.

Feel free to e-mail me with your favorite Holiday toy that you got as a kid, and maybe I'll include it in a future article with proper attribution of course.

Next month, back to the news.

Happy New Year!
