WHAT I CARE TO SEE

CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE

I can honestly say that I never grew up on these as a kid. Sad, I know. However, having children, I did get a chance to read most of the books before the movie ever came out and enjoyed them tremendously, Christian overtones and all. It was a bit more childish than say, Lord of the Rings, but still full of imagination and fun. And that's what this movie is.

Very few book-inspired movies can truly 100% capture the feeling of its source. Well this one has. Maybe every single little detail isn't the same as I'm sure some of my fellow nitpickers will decipher. But the overall feeling and tone of the story is perfectly conveyed here. When Lucy is backing through the coats and arrives in a wintery forest. When the children are all grown up at the end, only to find that *poof* they aren't. Not to mention Aslan in all his glory.

A really nice movie for those who've read the books AND for those who haven't.

HOSTEL

A story of three backpackers traveling across Europe. They hear about a town where the women party hard and are easy, so they head out towards a hostel there. Everything seems to be "as promised" until people start disappearing. As it turns out, the town is also the location of a safe house where a group of rich folk pay big bucks to be able to do whatever sadistic thing they want to people. ( And it so happens Americans are the most expensive/sought after subjects.)

The film had some really gruesome cringe-worthy moments. Not as much as the trailers would lead you to believe. ( If you're expecting WORSE than SAW/SAW2, then you'll be disappointed ). But it's got a good nail biting story and ends on an interesting note ( which confirms Eli Roth won't necessarily do the same thing twice ). Definitely a must-see for the gore-horror fans.
