I admit I was looking forward to the show a bit; it got four stars in People magazine and the local paper. However, between the opinions here so far, and those on LJs, the vote seems to be either "love" or "hate" and nothing so much in the middle. I DID manage to watch the whole show and it did hold my interest. I thought it was pretty good; not great though. I DID like some of the characters; unexpectedly. I expected the cheerleader (Claire) to be the sexpot character; (Is she always gonna run around in her uniform?) but it turns out it looks like that will be the Ali Larter character (Niki), perhaps due to circumstances, not nature. Claire didn't seem like a stereotype -- snobby or stuckup; though I would've thought she'd have girl best friends, not a single guy -- who I don't see what he brings to the table -- other than the show's "romantic couple." I suppose the comparisons to "Lost" are to be expected. I saw a few parallels that I don't think are that much of a stretch, including and not limited to . . . the time/space theory a set of characters, on the surface not connected in any way, but are connected either by coincidence and/or circumstances, and/or something more. a scientific organization, whose purpose isn't exactly clear, and seems at the very least, weird, if not sinister. an overweight male character, which will evoke a smile from the audience mysteries that are revealed and not dragged on before I lose interest. Okay, so I made up the last one. The teaser for next week's show seemed to reveal a LOT, at least to me; and that's promising. While I don't want the WHOLE pot of beans spilled right away in one fell swoop, I do like SOME pieces of the puzzle put together. See last season's "Invasion," which started great, then IMO got too cutesy a third or halfway in, trying to prolong and stretch it's story with pregnant pauses, and lost most of its' audience. I think "Heroes" may have hooked me better if there was a two-hour pilot instead of one. The male characters didn't do much for me; they seemed too dark and uninteresting to me. However, Masi Oka as Hiro does steal the show with his scenes and he displays a comedic charm and talent. There was a reference to a X-Men comic, #143. That was kinda cool. A character stated this was where Kitty Pryde did some time travel. I'll have to check on that. I thought this was the last Byrne issue and a "Christmas/Kitty/Home Alone" issue, where she fends off a predatory alien. The thing I hated most about the show was the music, actually. At times, it was way too artsy, way too loud, way too Vanilla Sky "We're trying to make a statement here." I will watch next week. I think the show does have potential and it's a good lead-in to Studio 60.
