WHAT I CARE TO SEE
By Stephane Morrell

ACROSS THE UNIVERSE

If that title already rings a bell, this might be the movie for you. Proving that you can use Beatles songs to tell a story, the film tells the story of Jude who goes to America to find his father, and proceeds to fall in love with Lucy. Seeing a pattern yet, Beatles fans? Yes, the story uses names, places, lyrics and songs from Beatles songs. But don't make the mistake of thinking this is a "Beatles" movie. It has nothing to actually do with the Fab Four except that their songs are used as the vehicle for the story. ( Well that and the era the music was released in ).
The film is about the 60's all around. War, Revolution, Music, Drugs and of course, Love. One thing of note was Eddie Izzard's trippy performance as Mr Kite, heading a psychedelic circus show. Beautiful, vibrantly colourful film.
