WHAT I CARE TO SEE

SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET

The problem with this movie is not in the content, but in the marketing. Many people are going to go into this, not knowing what it is based on, thinking it's a harsh horror flick. Oh it's harsh. And it's gory. But it's also based on a very famous Broadway musical. Therefore the movie is as well.

That being said, the aesthetic of the film ( as in most of Tim Burton's films ) is fantastic. The performances put through by the entire cast were just spot on with some vocals I wouldn't have expected from some. And the fact that this is a feature film rather than a Broadway play has really allowed them to expand on a lot of things that would otherwise be impossible on stage. At the same time, not at the cost of the story and original concepts and/or music. ( Unless you count the ghosts prologue and conclusion scenes, which have been cut from the script. )

Go in expecting to see Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter singing, and you'll come out happy.
