Well, this month I did something different. I was offered a commission from someone my girlfriend works with, to do his kids as superheroes. It sounded like fun so I took it. The kids, a boy and girl are named Bryson and Miranda. I used those as their super-hero names, to keep things simple and because they'd be recognizable to the kids.
I agreed to do the black and white art and a digital color image.
Like a genius, I forgot to save a copy of the black and white image.
So, first thing I did was see if I could produce reasonable likenesses. It's not something I usually do, but I can usually get close enough to get by. The kids' dad said the color schemes for the boy should be red and blue, and the girl likes pink. I really went nuts with the pink on her outfit, and even incorporated it in her powers.
After completing the art, and working on the colors, I had a couple of ideas for some additional items.
Of course, it's always more fun to have a little action in the piece. But, I didn't stop there. I was sitting around at work over the weekend and I had the idea to create character pages like in DC's Who's Who or Marvel's Handbook of the Marvel Universe. I started with the bad guy, giving him an appropriate sounding silver age alien name, Gruthorr. Gotta have the double r at the end, right?
As for the kids, I've blacked out full names, but I created origins for them and even made them members of a local junior super-team, the Junior Rangers. Bryson got pretty much the Superboy package. It's classic and it suited the color scheme. Miranda's powers are a little like Green Lantern's, but pink. She uses the bubble hoop to trick bad guys into thinking it's her power source.
I also did sketch cards for the kids' characters. I'm having a lot of fun doing the cards, I just need to scan a bunch of them.
That's really all, this month. I was working on the stuff for the round-robin story and on Ad Astra.
