DCU Online Delayed
The much anticipated release of the DC Universe MMO has been delayed from November 2010 to the first quarter of 2011. Hopefully this does not signal anything major going on with the company that is making the game. They said that they wanted more feedback from Beta testers before putting the game into full production, but we all know that one game that has been in production for years, Duke Nukem Forever, that is still vaporware. StarCraft 2 was another hyped game for years that took forever to make and it shows in that the game is not all that graphically complicated. The cut scenes require a lot of GPU processing power, but the game itself does not require a lot of processing. There is a chance to get into the Beta testing by pre-ordering the game before the end of the day on November 15th on the DC Universe Online site.

An Open Letter to George Lucas
I was on the CNN site recently and came across this link of an open letter a "Star Wars" fan wrote to George Lucas about the first movie, "The Phantom Menace" being released in 3D in about two years. The announcement came hot on the heels of the announcement of the sextet of movies being released on Blu-Ray. The fan does bring up some good points in his letter, but one thing I don't understand is the Jar-Jar hate that still exists four years after the release of the last movie. Jar-Jar was the C-3P0 of the prequel trilogy; used for comic relief and sometimes as a plot device. Seeing him in the new "Clone Wars" cartoon shows us that he can be used for serious parts too if he's just written right. I just don't want Jar-Jar to break out in a sonnet by the Bard to make him seem so serious. I don't think that 3D will be the worst version of the sextet of movies, but I know I won't be going to see them. I'll pick up the Blu-Ray releases next year and watch those once I have a player and hi-def television.

"Aliens" Questions Answered
This link on SyFy Channel's Blastr web site has an old Q&A session with "Aliens" director James Cameron back in 1986 about some of the unanswered questions the movie had. Most of them are kind of like: "Why did the aliens kill some people while capturing and webbing up some of the others?" and something about where the Space Jockey from the movie "Alien" came from and who was He/She/It? The article was a good read and really sheds a little more light on what is going on in the movie. A lot of those questions I would have never thought to ask about the movie, but I was not the one doing the interview.

$2.99 the New Standard
The big news to come out of the NYCC is that both Marvel and DC are going to set the price point of all their regular monthly books at $2.99. I personally like this idea because the fluctuating price of some of the books I pick up makes it hard to budget from month to month. What I'm beginning to wonder is if other smaller companies will match what Marvel and DC are doing and set one reasonable price point for all their books. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop on the Dark Horse announcement that they mentioned on their Facebook page. I personally would like to see a company like IDW drop the price of their books down to $2.99 so I can justify picking up their GI Joe offerings every month. They seem to have the market cornered on licensed properties and nothing will make them drop it to $2.99. Overall I think this will be a good thing, but I see smaller page counts in our future to keep up the new price point. They may also jack up the price of the one shots and limited series, but it's not too rare that you have to pay $4.00 for a one-shot with no fancy cover or special paper stock to print it on.

What's the Deal With Squirrel Girl?
It appears that over the past few years that the Marvel character, Squirrel Girl (SG) has been the darling of the internet. So much so that now she is being used as the Nanny for Luke Cage and Jessica Drew's baby in the upcoming issues of "New Avengers". Maybe I'm not up on things with this whole SG thing but why has she become such a darling of every major message board that has anything to do with comics? I looked her up on Wikipedia and the only major thing she has done in her entire super career was take out Dr. Doom. I don't know if it was the real Dr. Doom or a Doombot, but everyone is acting like she caused world peace with what she did. Frankly the only person who should control an army of squirrels is the Janitor from "Scrubs" who had an army of taxidermy squirrels. She is a joke character on a joke team and should not be taken so seriously when she is in the "New Avengers"

Dear Grant Morrison,
You come off as the biggest twit to ever write a comic book. Not the good kind of twit like the podcast of the same name done by Leo Laporte, but a snide jackass who probably still uses drugs to get through all the projects he's doing. How else do you explain the end of "Final Crisis"? Now he says on Twitter his grand plan is to make the history of the DC universe sentient. How can history become sentient? THAT DOES NOT MAKE A LICK OF SENSE! BTW Grant, you still owe me $28 for every issue of "Final Crisis" that I purchased and did not make sense. The other books that took place at the same time as Final Crisis like "Rogues Revenge" and "Legion of Three Worlds" were great stories that were told well (granted some of them were really late), but the main book was a piece of crap that I'm one of these days going to burn and urinate on the ashes.

This May Be My Age Showing
When did the world go all zombie, vampire and werewolf crazy? All I'm being bombarded with everywhere I go on the internet is advertisements for the new "Walking Dead" series on AMC and the Twilight series of movies and books. I personally don't care for zombies or shiny sparkling emo (or just emo) vampires. When did the world turn into the "OMG! I want to marry Edward even though he's an abusive control freak," or "I want to marry the werewolf one from Twilight because he's got great abs." Frankly anything that can be killed by a silver bullet, a stake to the heart and turn into powder is not good boyfriend material. Ladies let me break your hearts now, you are not going to find anyone like Edward or Jacob because Vampires and Werewolves do not exist. There are crazy people out there that think they are like that, but ultimately they will be proven not to be by any kind of reasonable medical and/or mental health professional. The zombie thing I just don't get. Why are people obsessed with acting like the walking dead? There is no such thing as the undead. They are buried anywhere between three to six feet below the ground in a heavy duty casket with thousands of pounds of dirt on top of them. Some of them are even encased in concrete mausoleums. Those of them that are not are generally cremated and ashes buried underground. There are people out there that think the government is working on something to turn us all into zombies and then we will be under their control. Those of you that think that need to quit playing Resident Evil and play something that is more lighthearted like Super Mario Brothers Wii or Mario Galaxy (Mario Galaxy 2 is coming shortly.) Yes I do enjoy my own dose of healthy fantasy life with Star Wars and D&D, but personally this whole thing about zombies, vampires and werewolves just really bugs me to no end. You don't see armies of Star Wars cosplayers going out and trying to break some flash mob record or have the biggest dancing group to take part in a re-enactment of Michael Jackson's Thriller video. Star Wars fans go out and raise money for charities by marching in the Rose Bowl parade. When there was a release of the prequel movies people all around the United States raised money for a well deserving charity by having contests and sponsors for who would be in line the longest. That's all I have to say about that!
That is all for this month. As always, comments and story ideas can be sent to me at the e-mail above and I'll see if I can shoehorn it into a future article.
