Well, here we are, tens years into the new century and I'm in a slump. It's just one of those times, when NOTHING is springing to mind, and whenever I put pencil to paper, I just can't come up with anything good.
So, I've decided to show off a little fan art that I've done, recently. Over the last few years, the Venture Brothers has been one of my favorite TV shows, animated or otherwise. Over the years, the stories have become more complex, the characters more nuanced and it has remained one of the funniest things ever on TV.
Naturally, I've tried my hand at drawing some of the characters. Only a few are good enough to show off, I think.
The first is one of the main villains of the show, The Monarch, who is a favorite bad guy of mine. His ineptitude is only exceeded by his theatricality. It's interesting, in a show like this, that he is seen in flashbacks in different costumes, as he evolves into the true super-villain.
The second pieces I did was a take on one of the background characters, a hydrocephalic super-genius, Billy (Quiz Boy) Whalen. I reimagined him as a mirror-universe ray-gun gothic super-villain, The Quizmonger.
Last, but not least, one of the girls. I haven't taken the time to ink this, because I'm going to try to preseve the pencils, when I do it. Triana Orpheus, daughter of master necromancer Dr. Byron Orpheus, has been revealed to have the potential to become a sorceress, herself. Here, I've taken that idea to it's logical conclusion. One day, I may design a cool sorceress supreme costume, like her father's, but sexier.
I was really happy with the results on this one and I think she'll make a great sorceress supreme, one day. Earth has always needed one who could be snarky on a cosmic level, don't you think?
Sorry there's not more. I have the flu, on top of a creative slump and I just ain't feelin' it.
