One Salt Sea
By Seanan McGuire

It's kind of cheating for me to review an October Daye book. I love them so much that the review basically consists of me gushing. But it's been a crazy busy month, so don't judge me!

Much of One Salt Sea regards events from the previous books and it would involve revealing a lot of spoilers to talk too much about the plot, so I won't. Suffice it to say that as usual, the story moves briskly and there's a good mix of action, mystery, faerie magic and just a little romance. As usual, poor Toby takes quite a beating in her quest to do the right thing, but that's why we like her.

One Salt Sea expands the world of the series by introducing ocean-based faeries. The underwater setting was wonderfully fantastic and there were some nicely imaginative faerie creatures, without McGuire diverging too far from established faerie lore.

Certain elements of the story were a little predictable, but overall the central mystery kept me guessing and kept me turning the pages and staying up too late to read "just one more chapter." If you're already a fan of the series, you'll want to pick this one up - if you're new to the series, pick up the first four (starting with Rosemary and Rue) and jump right in!
