So, a few weeks back I started collecting ideas for pieces of art to do for an art book I've been thinking about. One of my Ad Astra readers suggested I do some of my HeroBlog characters and suggested I do some more HeroBlog stories. That got me to thinking and I decided to do something new with it. Rather than just start up with Amp, again, I decided to open up the universe. It's what I originally thought to do with HeroBlog, but it never worked out that way.
So, when I got to thinking about it, I decided to start up a new site, rather than just restart with HeroBlog.com, so HeroBlogUniverse.com was born.
To start things off, I'll be doing some catch-up. Amp has been missing for over two years now and I want to figure out what's happened to him. Also, it will let me play with some of the characters Amp has met in his adventures, as well as introduce some new ones.
The first blogger on HeroBlogUniverse will be Esprit, the youngest member of Omega Unit. She was one of first heroes Amp met and I always intended for her to have a bit of a crush on him. But, now she's six years older and getting involved in adventures of her own.
Here first HBU adventure will be tracking down Amp wherever he's got to.
To help her, she'll reach out to super-hero community, and a super-villain or two. Among the heroes will be some other young heroes who've grown into their own, former members of the kid-team known as the Young Guns (there's a story behind that name, but you need to go read HeroBlog for that one). They've formed a new team that spends most of its time traveling from town to town around the western United States, fighting crime and covering areas not normally outside the patrol of established super-heroes. They're known as Outriders.
These are just the core of the team, members come and go as they pass through the home towns of young heroes. The core members are Dyna, she has electromagnetic powers that allow her to fly and throw electro-plasma bolts. She can also form plasma shields. Her brother, Magnetix, has your basic magnetic powerset, manipulates ferrous metals, generates and controls magnetic fields. He can also do a pretty effecteve EMP to take out electronics. If only bad guys routinely used steel-jacketed ammo, he could control bullets, too, but that's pretty rare. Red Hawk is the former side-kick of the late Steel Eagle. He doesn't yet feel ready to take on the promotion to the Steel Eagle identity. He's the basic martial arts-detective-acrobat hero. Atalanta is the female super-athlete type. She's strong, fast and tough, and she's skilled with just about any hand weapon ever made.
I have a good bit of the mystery worked out, but I've found it best to play it by ear, with my writing. It helps keep me interested and fresh.
So, in the next week or two, HeroBlogUniverse.com will go live and I would appreciate any input.
