So, my head was splitting from sinus headaches brought on by allergies and my concentration was crap, so I'm running late getting a column together. It's a lot harder doing this at work, now because they block our access to Gmail and such.

Lately, I've been reading a lot of old comics, Avengers, Captain Marvel and others from Marvel and a little classic Doom Patrol from DC. For my column this month I took a villain from the Avengers, whose original costume is simply tragic . . . The Grim Reaper.

The Grim Reaper

The clashing colors, the inexplicable pirate boots and the clumsy antlers. For a guy with a scythe for a hand, any piece of costumery sticking out from the body is a hazard. Can you imagine if these guys had to comply with OSHA regulations? There would have to be warning stickers all over him!

Of course, by his next appearance his costume was considerably better, but he still had the unfortunate headgear. My version takes and adapts elements from all his costumes and loses the antlers. No depiction of the Grim Reaper has the old harvester of souls with antlers or horns, etc. So let's streamline that mask.

Also, I wanted him to have a bit of color again.

New REaper

Of course, the cape is still a hazard to navigation, when that scythe starts spinning like a helicopter rotor, but some sacrifices must be made for style.

Next month, a Monstress makeover!
