Hello everyone, last month I was supposed to appear
as guest writer of this series of articles. Well,
as it turns out I am now your permanent local comic
shop corespondent in the Houston Area. Now on to the
real star of this month, Genesis Comics. You might
have seen the owner, Chris Abels Swipe of the Week
page on the web. Besides having a impressive web site,
Chris has an great comic shop too.
Genesis Comics has a wide array of comics, comic
related merchandise, games, and rental anime movies too.
The second you walk in you can see the grand diversity
of the merchandise. Boxes of back issues, trade
paperbacks, and board games line one wall. While
the opposite wall is lined with new arrivals.
The comics vary in topic, publisher, type, etc.
and the trade paperbacks are composed of everything
from archives to sourcebooks and to graphic novels.
The amazing thing about the trade paperbacks and
comic books is the diversity of selections. Magazines
about specific genres of collecting are also sold at
Genesis comics.
The games at Genesis Comics have even more diversity
than the diversity of the comics and trade paperbacks.
There are boxes full of gaming books and action/RPG modules.
For the most part the gaming books are RPGs (Role Playing
Games). There is also a wide variety of board games. Some
of the board games are based on books, television shows,
or movies. A great deal of them though are original board
games. Speaking of gaming every Saturday Genesis Comics
has a Magic Gaming Night, where people can come and play
some friendly games of Magic.
There is a large selection of anime movies that are
available to rent at Genesis Comics. You have to be
eighteen or older though or at least have parental
permission. One video can be rented for two nights
at the price of one and a half dollars American or
three videos can be rented for two days at the price
of four dollars American. I dont know about you,
but this sounds like a great deal to me.
Genesis Comics also has comic posters, comic T-shirts,
and a few figurines. Posters include things like promo
posters, and posters others of individual comic characters.
I didnt look fully through the T-shirts, but I did notice
that there were some that some of the other comic shops
dont have. Figurines I did see were a couple Xena
dolls and a few Kiss dolls.
Genesis Comics is an marvelous comic shop with a
wide assortment of things to offer. Chris Abel is a
very nice man, who makes every person who comes into
Genesis Comics feel welcome. He and the rest of his
staff are eager to help and very polite. If you havent
visited his store or his website I recommend you do you
are in for a treat.
