Movie Review: The X-Files

by Jamie Coville

Suspense, Suspense, Suspense. This movie was one of the few that *really* had me on the edge of my seat at several points. The X-Files crew took advantage of the new movie format to give us a more full story, making the trip to the theater worth it. I do have to warn fans that this is not the "ultimate" X-Files movie. Some key characters either play small roles or don't show up at all. It was quite surprising how several characters were treated in this film. On the other hand, some new and minor characters take up the slack. The movie does answer a major question *for sure* that has been going on through the series. Most X-philies, like myself, will walk out wondering how the details all fit together, and I'm sure that will be a part of the 6th season. The movie also changes some things and if you *don't* see it, you'll be left scratching your head at the start of the next season.

For non X-Files fans, the movie will be understandable. It also has some seemingly tribal things happen that you would normally see in an TV episode. After watching this flick, you can watch new or old episodes and "get" the common themes that make this show popular. Oh, my brother told me a rumor was going around that after the credits, Chris Carter appears and talks about stuff. So we stuck around (like a few other people) and waited to see if it was true. I don't think it was, since our theater blinked off the film, rolled down the curtains, and cut the sound immediately after the credits were done. So if it was true, our theater either didn't know about it or purposely hid this information from us. I'm beginning to smell a conspiracy...
