Hey, in case you don’t know, this column is dedicated to comics JLA related such as JLA, JLA:Y1, Young Justice, and Titans. This month, I will give my views and opinions on JLA: Year 1.

This title is about the Justice League in their first year of being a team. The series has adventure, but also tells the story of how the Leaguers learned to trust each other and to function as a team. The team is made up of the JLA founding members Aquaman, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Black Canary, The Flash (Barry Allen), and the Martian Manhunter (who has recently gotten his own monthly ongoing series). The plot has to do with the League’s first adventure where they all fought alien invaders independently, and teamed up to fight another. (Superman also dispatched one of the aliens and flew off before the newly formed League got there.) Yet, this title shows they missed one alien, (they don’t know this till a later issue) who is plotting against the League, and there is a criminal organization bent on bringing on the apocalypse (Locus). A real treat for older readers occurs when the original JLA teams up with the original Doom Patrol in issues 5-6. This is a great title that gives newer readers a look at the past and at the history of the League and older readers a taste of the good ol’ days (the silver age) where they get to read new stories about old favorites.

The creative team for this book is great, it includes Mark Waid, Brian Augustyn, and Barry Kitson. They give the book a very silver agish feel and look. I do have one little complaint about Mark Waid’s (the legendary Flash writer) fill in on JLA: Y1. J’onn (the Martian Manhunter) looks like a traitor for a few issues. Mark was writing a couple of issues of the regular JLA series for Grant Morrison, who was off writing DC’s One Million. Earlier in the current JLA series written by Grant Morrison , issues 3-4, I believe) he was made to look like a traitor. Is it me or is the "J’onn J’onzz an alien can he be trusted" thing overdone? Other then that, I have no problem with this book.

JLA: Y1 is a maxi-series, meaning it will only go issues 1-12. It is already to issue #10, and it is a great series and I suggest picking up the last two issues. If you can find them, I suggest you pick up the back issues of this series.

Here I would like to tell you about a new thing I (hopefully) will start next month. I am going to try every month to have a character spotlight on a JLA related character giving a biography, a back history, currently papering in, and future outlook type thing after my column.

Hopefully I will have enough time. Anyway, thet’s it, till next month.
