STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE

by Stephane Morrell

a XipeTotec rant at the Naysayers (MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD ---> ) ...

I've seen this movie twice now, and as opposed to many of these movie critics, I LOVED it!

To all the people who hated this movie, I'm sorry to tell you that you've grown up... grown up too much, that is. You've lost the ability to have that nice sense of levity in your heart that the original Star Wars movies created, that rush of adrenaline that you got from a good lightsaber fight.

The movie is a perfect setup for the characters that are to come throughout the saga. Not to mention that hidden beneath the apparent happy ending, is a dark, seething, HORRIBLE ending!! The ending being that Senator Palpatine ( whom we all know becomes EMPEROR Palpatine ) is elected Chancellor of the Galactic Senate! Knowing what comes in the later films, what could be more horrifying, storywise?

Sure Darth Maul didn't have a huge part! ( although that was the way it SHOULD be, he needed to be out of the picture to leave way for a NEW apprentice ).

Sure some think Jar Jar was annoying ( although I thought he brought great levity to the picture and represented the fact that even the clumsy ones can help )

Sure the movie wasn't action from beginning to end ( What the hell do you want? A freaking Rambo Movie?! What the hell? NO Star Wars movie was action from beginning to end, Look at Empire Strikes Back... it CERTAINLY wasn't ALL action!!! )

>DD?The movie brought across certain points about the republic the way it was before, and put the wheels in motion for the empire that is to come!!!

The only thing I'm not too keen on is this midi-chlorians crap... I liked the force the way it was without adding this pseudo-biological stuff... but according to George Lucas, that and the fact that Qui-Gon didn't vanish at the moment of his death will be elaborated on in the following films... so I guess we'll have to see what happens next.

It's really sad that people these days need these movies that have massive amounts of guns and death, or really high-speed non stop actions... Critics that have gone in and said that it sucked, or didn't have the character development of the originals ... WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT?! They don't have any less than the originals?! Have these stupid critics forgotten that that was one of the major complaints from movie critics in the FIRST PLACE?!

This movie was PURE STAR WARS... period... sure the effects were computer animated instead of people in big rubber suits... but the idea remains the same... It's almost like they can't stand that it was such a big deal, they went in there trying to find all the bad elements and trying to cut it down as viciously as they could... well to all these movie critics ( whom by the way, I've rarely agreed with ANYWAY )

YOUSA CAN KISSA MY JABBA!
