Great X-pectations by Jason M. Bourgeois

Sex, Liefelds, and Videotape

Now, that topic is definitely one to get a person's attention. Or scare people very, very far away.

This is what? The third month I've felt like complaining about the new Cable creative team? First with their takeover of the book, with a little mention, last month with my rant on two issues of Magneto Rex, whose writer is co writing Cable with Liefeld. When you've got a great target, might as well run with it, right?

Well, the third issue of Cable since they've taken over from Casey and Ladronn, has now been solicited, and suprise, suprise, Liefeld isn't doing the artwork! Nor, is he doing the 2nd issue, as evidenced by some fixed solicitations. And what do we have here? Joe Pruett isn't even writing!

What the hell?

Marvel hired these two as the new permanent creative team on this book, to raise sales on it, and what happens? One whole month later, and one of `em isn't doing anything with the book, and two months later, they're both not in the credits! Way to go Marvel! GREAT choice!

Ok, granted, the solicitations could be wrong, or things could change, but frankly, I'm not suprised in the least. This is Liefeld's normal operating procedure, although he usually lasts a few months more than one.
When is Marvel going to learn? How many times has Liefeld come into Marvel and left in disgust, or been fired, due to lacking sales, or unkept deadlines? Far too many than I care to count... Well, OK, something like two or three, but that should be more than enough. As the saying goes, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on you."

So now, we get two months of bad Liefeld clone fill-in artists. I'm not sure which is worse, Liefeld himself, or the Legion of Clones he has created over the years with his empire. I think I'll take a diarrhetic monkey hopped up on crack and given a pencil any day, as an artist.

At least, if you don't look too hard at the artwork, you won't be able to tell much of a difference from month to month. Which beggars the question, who would want to look at that artwork? Too many lines, all the faces look the same, and the musculature is even more disproportionate than usual.

Although, why am I telling people what's wrong with the Liefeld School of Art? That should be a well-known to everyone. Although, I guess some new reader could come along, and learn that this is an artist to stay away from.

So what about the Sex? Again, we go to Liefeld, and check out the `women' he draws in any comic book, which is the big draw for most prepubescent fanboys. "Oooo, breasts!"

And the Videotape? Well, there are some very interesting casting decisions going around about the upcoming X-Men movie...
