Just an update from last month: This has yet to be confirmed, but it appears that the Dragonfly in the new GI Joe toy line might, in fact, be the Locust Helicopter with Wild Bill. Also, the submarine might be called Man-O-War. These have yet to be confirmed, and I'll give you an update when I find out more.
Well, according to the rumor mill this month, it appears that the Transformers toy line is getting set to make a comeback. I'm not talking the new stuff from Beast Machines or Beast Wars, but the really old line from the early 1980's. It appears that they never really stopped making Transformers Generation 1 toys overseas, and that the powerhouse that is Kenner/Hasbro has been importing them and selling them as exclusives on their web site. I'm kind of glad to see this happening, because to me, Transformers was a lot better when the characters were more than animals. This gave them a different personality to go with the character. I know for example there was Preceptor, an Autobot that transformed from robot mode to a microscope and had the personality of a scientist rather than a fighter. According to the information that I have, there is going to be a Megatron 3-pack coming to Target stores later this year. Hopefully this includes the original Megatron (a gun), Galvatron and another (maybe the tank from Series #2). More on this as it becomes available.
For those of you that are fans of the JLA, then be keeping an eye on your local Kay-Bee toy store or Kay-Bee online because a new crop of them are supposed to be hitting the shelves during the summer. The characters in this set are: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Red Tornado and The Atom. From the three that I have seen, Wonder Woman, Red Tornado and The Atom, they look okay, but they are still stuck in various bad poses. They got rid of the constipated look on their faces this time around and are getting better. While on the subject of the DC hero's lines, this summer brings a nine-inch two pack of Batman and Robin dolls. They are dressed in their outfits from the 1950's and makes me think back to the time that Adam West and Bert Ward were Batman and Robin. It'll be offered through Hasbrodirect.com. Lastly, there will be two pack of Vertigo's Sandman (modern age). One version will be Dream Hunter Sandman and the other will be an Arabian Nights version.
Dragon Ball Z is finally producing figures for the United States market. For this set, which will be called set 12, has the likes of: Frieza in his second form (out of his chair and really tall), Yajirobe with Korin, Garlic Jr. (part of the short lived Garlic Jr. Saga now out on home video), Master Roshi with his turtle (I'll be getting two of him because he has a neat looking turtle.), Raditz and Nappa (bad guys from early on in the series). Bulma (with Ginyu Frog) and Chou-Tzu (he sucks, and that's all I have to say about him).
Jakks Pacific has rolled out the latest versions of some of their figures for the WWF. Later this year will see the release of new versions of the wrestlers Edge, Buh Buh Ray and D-Von Dudley, Al Snow, Tazz and Ivory. I've seen pictures of most all of them, and them using the new RealScan technology to make the figures they have vastly improved the looks of the faces. May should have seen the release of three new two packs of figures. The new ones will include the Hardy Boys, Chyna and Jericho and Triple-H and Billy Gunn. I'm definitely grabbing two of the Hardy Boys two packs when I see them as well as the Dudley boys, Tazz and Ivory. Also in future lines of RealScan figures will be a Big Show, Cactus Jack and another Triple-H.
That about covers it all for this month. Keep an eye on those shelves. Any comment's, ideas, Perry Saturn figures in a dress (I'm serious about this one) just e-mail me.
