I once heard someone give an appropriate answer. The answer
was "Because its there." The question was "Why do you climb
mountains."
The same thing could be said about making fun of our politicians.
No excuses given, no apologies offered.
The Random Thoughts top ten reasons that being a Politician is
similar being a GM, only better.
- You can get away with doing things that you never could in
real life (and in politics, you can sign a book deal for it).
- You can send your Players (underlings) out to do your dirty
work for you (and in politics, get the fame and credit for it).
- You get the pleasure of setting up nearly impossible
situations and watching with glee as your players (underlings)
scurry about trying desperately to figure out what to do.
- You never have to worry about someone else contesting
your right to be supreme ruler, delaying elections, recounting
votes (ok, maybe this is one way that being a GM has its
advantage).
- Unlike being a GM, you dont have to create your own
world (or buy expensive modules), the whole thing is there
for you to play with and shape.
- Unlike GMs, politicians dont actually have to make any
decisions. They have advisors for that. And if something
gets screwed up, the advisors get the blame. GMs have no
one else but themselves.
- When youre a politician, you can take off on any
odd/obscure/minor holiday you want, as long as the
government recognizes it as such (but people realize that
youre a government worker and understand you have a ton
of holidays). When youre a GM, you can do the same, but
amidst loud complaints from your players, who always
expect something.
- When your parent was a politician, it opens the easy road in
politics for you (no matter how incompetent you are). When
your parent was a GM, players expect much more from
you.
- When you drive your enemies down before you, you get the
pleasure of seeing it via live video feed, rather than having to
describe it from a piece of paper.
And the number one reason why being a politician is better than
being a GM:
- You get to be someone youre not, living in a land of make-
believe (only in politics, you get paid for it).
