Toy Chest #4

Fans of the RPG series Final Fantasy will be happy top hear that Bandai (the makers of other lines like Power Rangers) is making a line based on the game Final Fantasy IX. The figures will come in two packs and sell for about $9.99. No release date set yet, but start looking for them in the year 2001.

Rumors abound that the company N2 Toys is making a line based on the action movies Rambo, Terminator, Terminator 2 and the Professional. There also might be a Steven Seagal figure in the line. If they go through with the Steven Seagal figure, then this will indicate to me that HELL has in fact frozen over and pigs have grown wings.

Playmates toys just keeps the Simpsons figures coming. First, keep an eye open for two new playsets that should be out by the time you read this. The first set is the Krusty Studio with a Sideshow Bob figure (the first Kelsey Grammar figure ever). The other one is the outside of the Springfield Town Hall with the town's corrupt mayor, Mayor Quimby. Second, a list of rumored figures escaped from Playmates and here’s what may be coming out thoughout next year; Lenny (Where’s Carl?), Ralph Wiggum, Patty (no Selma?), Itchy and Scratchy, Groundskeeper Willie, Captain McCallister (ARRR!), Bartman (yet another Bart repaint.), Martin Prince (now we need a bully three pack to pick on him and Milhouse) and Sideshow Mel.

For the love of fuzzy! Toy Biz is re-releasing six X-Men figures under the banner of the "X-Man Classics." They will have Wolverine, Rogue, Cyclops, Gambit, Magneto and Apocalypse. Look for them to hit stores in early 2001. Toy Biz should change their motto to "Anything X-Men, we’ll make it."

Jackie Chan is getting his own action figure line based on his cartoon on Kids WB, thanks to Playmates toys. There will be Section 13 Jackie Chan, Adventurer Jackie Chan, Kung Fu Jackie Chan and his enemy Shadowkhan. Look for them in the spring of 2001.

DC Direct is going to put out four big figures in April 2001. Look for a two pack of Orion with an interchangeable head and harness and his daddy Darkseid with light piped eyes. Also, there will be treatments of the Golden Age heroes Hourman and Dr. Mid-nite.

ReSaurus will be putting out a special series of figures based on the US Special Forces of the Green Beret's and Navy SEALS. From the Green Beret’s, there will be the Recon Officer, M.A.C. Advisor and the Urban Sniper. From the Navy SEALS, there is the Combat Diver, Close Quarters Battle and Fire Team. Each figure will be about six inches tall, come with lots of weapons, and sport 17 points of articulation. Look for them by the end of the year.

Dragon Ball Z will be producing their 16th series of figures by the end of the year and they really have some good supporting characters in this line. This line will see the likes of Dende, Chi-Chi, Trunks (a sword wielding Bad-Ass), Krillin and King Kai with Bubbles (I’m getting him so I can have my figures chase Bubbles).

That looks like all the news that is fit to put into print this month. Hopefully 2001 will be a better year for toy collectors.
