I hope everyone's holidays went well and that you got almost everything
you wanted. Hopefully 2002 will be a better year than 2001. As always,
comments, questions and anything else can be sent to the address
above.
First up is Todd McFarlane's new addition to his sports figure line. He
got the rights to do NBA figures and is starting in March 2002. The first set
will have Allen Iverson (Philadelphia 76ers), Kobe Bryant (LA Lakers),
Kevin Garnett (Minnesota Timberwolves), Tim Duncan (San Antonio
Spurs), Vince Carter (Toronto Raptors) and Jason Kidd (New Jersey Nets).
Unfortunately, there will be no Michel Jordan figure as he holds the
copyright of his image. Hopefully Todd will branch out into other teams
other than the popular ones. I know some Dallas Mavericks figures will
sell like hotcakes. Also somewhere down the line McFarlane is hoping to
get the rights to do figures of Major League Baseball Figures.
For those of you that were video arcade rats in the early 1980's, than
this might be right up your alley. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the
video game Dragons Lair; AnJon Inc. is putting out figures based on the
game. Look for likenesses of Daphne, Dirk the Daring, the Eyeball
Creature, Dingbats and the Fire Drake sometime in the Spring of 2002.
If you cannot pay the ridiculous prices of the new DC Universe figures
put out by DC Direct or just want something to share with your kids without
having to worry about ruining them, then these might be of interest to
you. They are putting out three inch versions of some of their more popular
heroes in two packs starting in July. The first packs will be Green
Lantern and Sinestro, Aquaman and Black Manta, Starman and the
Shade and Dr. Mid-Nite and The Atom. For those of you itching to see a preview of
what they look like, take a look at the Solomon Grundy figure due out in
January because it will have a preview figure of Golden Age Wonder
Woman.
Also by DC Direct, look for more additions to their DC Universe line in
May. This line will include Golden Age Flash nemesis The Shade, Legion
members Brainiac 5, Mon-El and Vandal Savage.
Diamond Select is coming out with their own line of ultra-detailed action
figures starting in the Spring of 2002. The first three will be
Spider-Man, Electra and Tim Bradstreet's version of the Punisher. They
will be in scale with one another ranging from 4-10 inches tall and will
only be available in your local comic book store.
I really think Todd McFarlane is running out of ideas for his Spawn toy
line. As of February, he will be on his 21st line of Spawn figures and here
is a run down of what he is making. First there will be five variants of
the Spawn character (Ange, Spawn VII, Pirate, Raven and Alien Spawn II)
and She-Spawn II. Great Scott, Todd why don't you give it a rest? If you
are doing more variations than the Batman toy line by Kenner, then you
might want to take a break and work on some other licenses.
