Toy Chest

Well, it's been another wild and wacky month in the realm of toys.

First up on the hit parade is Palisades Toys. It appears that the same wave of nostalgia that brought back GI Joe and He-Man is also bringing back the Micronauts. Look for figures of Acroyear, Baron Karza, Time Traveler and Membros due out this month. There is also supposed to be a new version of the Micronauts comic due out soon, so there looks like tons of stuff on the way for all you Micronauts fans out there.

Next is an update on the Star Wars front. For those of you who really want to know what the hot figures from the second movie are here's a list (of course, what's hot in my part of the country may be a peg warmer in yours): Yoda (he's quite elusive even though there's like two or three figures a case of him) Count Dooku (Only two per case for him and I have not even seen him at my local comic store), Dexter Jettster (I used to see him a lot at first, but now he's gone), Anakin Skywalker [Hangar Duel] (I scooped up the only one I could find for a reasonable price), Clone Trooper and Zam Wesell (I've seen them in one store total). Also on the Star Wars front, you may have noticed little cardboard backgrounds on some of the figures you have purchased. Well, from what I have learned, this appears to be a packaging error. At first Hasbro was going to have the backgrounds in all of the figures, but someone at Lucasfilm put an end to that. Some of them managed to get shipped anyway and made their way onto our shelves. Unfortunately, it seems they only made it into the minor characters like the Tuskin Raider, Captain Typho and C-3P0. It may have made it into more, but those are the only ones around here that I have seen with the backgrounds.

It seems that someone managed to wrestle away a license from McFarlane. MezCo Toys seems to have gotten the rights to do figures based on the newest Austin Powers movie Goldmember. There will be a Dr. Evil & Mini-Me two pack, Fat Bastard, Goldmember, '70s Austin Powers and Foxxy Cleopatra. Look for them to start hitting shelves in late June or July.

As I have been mentioning the past few months, Palisades Toys has gotten the rights to do figures based on the characters from the Muppet show. The first ones should be on shelves soon (sometime this month) with another line due out in August. Look for Floyd, guitar player for the Electric Mayhem, Gonzo, Crazy Harry and Fozzy. There will also be an Animal action figure in a playset that is the stage for the Electric Mayhem. The only one I really want besides the main ones is the guy with the boomerang fish.

That appears to be all for this month. come back next month for more info.
