Lost Tales of Erin
Chris Ryan & Bill Knapp
Carbon-Based Books

Lost Tales of Erin is a delightful comic that I found on our monthly check for Blade of the Immortal (apparently the only comic we read right now that comes out on a regular basis!). Alas, while most good comics I've found recently have been limited series, this was only a one-shot!

Lost Tales could be tidily described as "Irish folk tales that could have been," and that's why I love it. Chris Ryan's three stories in this comic read just like classic folk lore, and are in fact inspired by Irish tales. The stories are light, humorous, and clean, fit for the entire family.

Bill Knapp's art didn't really appeal to me, though his style, somewhat caricature-like fits the stories well enough. The art wasn't bad, I just didn't like the style. Others might find it more appealing. The facial expressions at least are very well done, which helps the stories in places where they're being narrated.

In short, this would be a fine purchase for anyone who enjoys Irish culture or folk lore of any sort! A light, refreshing read, all topped off with a beautiful cover showing a stormy Irish day!

My one complaint is that in Bill Knapp's comments, he says that if they get good feedback they might do a comic like this again... But there is absolutely no contact information for Carbon Based Books *anywhere* in the comic!
