Well hello kiddies! It's that time again, yay!! Well if
you're kind enough to ignore all the other columns (and
probably the front page) but we just had AggieCon. I
personally enjoyed it for meeting Virginia Hey and Lani Tupu.
The dealer's room was just littered with various transformers.
I ended up picking up some loose TF's from a TF parts dealer.
My haul contained an original coloring of RID X-Brawn
($10), a Beast Machines Thrust ($6), and an unnamed Beast
machine jet ($4).
X-Brawn is eldest of the RID Car brothers (Sideburn
and Prowl being the other two). The nicest part of this guy is
his alt mode. I don't know exactly which suv he is, but it's
fairly true to life with the spare tire on the rear and the various
chrome step rails and the like. As with all the larger RID toys,
X-Brawn has a complex transformation sequence and a poor
bot mode. I just can't get past how ugly the bot mode is. It
uses the back half of the suv as the legs/feet, and the entire
front clip becomes his left arm. All of his chrome rails come
off to become weapons for his right missile arm. Overall, I
think I have to give him a C+, the bot mode is just that bad.
Thrust is the beast machines' incarnation of
Waspinator. "Chickz dig buff Biker Bot!" Thrust's alt mode is
a cybertronian motorcycle with a waspish head where the
rider would go. The transformation sequence is relatively
simple. The front wheel splits and becomes the feet and the
exhaust pipes become the arms. The bot mode isn't anything
horribly cool, but its not bad either. The left arm has a
missile in the palm, and the right arm extends when a lever is
pushed. A nifty side benefit is that the back wheel can split
and shift down so that when the front wheel is recombined the
bot mode can ride around on tricycle wheels. Since this was
developed on the heels of beast wars, some animal type traits,
in this case the bot actually has a hinged jaw. Overall I give
this guy an even A, though I wish I could find a set of tight
arms.
The jet is relatively small figure with a simplistic
transformation sequence. The most identifying traits on this
guy are his arms. One is the cockpit which, when a button is
pressed, splits into a large claw. The other arm is a dual
spring-loaded missile bank. These give him an interesting
look, but leaves much wanted in the realm of possibility.
Overall this guy rates an even B, not the best, but not too bad
either.
Well that's all for me right now. Maybe next month I'll
have a write up for this Clié as Im poor again and doubt Ill
be purchasing new transformers. Till then keep you're guns on
safe and anything that can be done tomorrow can wait.
