Well it looks like two in a row for me. As always ideas, comments,
suggestions, free convention tickets can be sent to the e-mail address
above.
First up this month are the DC minimates from Art Asylum. The line
will begin sometime in the next year and will mostly focus on the Batman and
Justice League characters. A new spin on the minimate concept will be put
out as well. This time they will have Lego-esque building sets packaged with
each of the minimates. The first waves will be Batman heavy and then move on
to the Justice League and maybe the Batman movie titles. Prices will range
from $7.99 for up to three-character pack up to $49.99 for a batcave
playset.
Not to be outdone, Marvel will have its minimates released in the
early part of 2004. Series 4 will have Maskless Spider-Man, Doctor Octopus,
Bullseye, Battle Damaged Daredevil, Gwen Stacy and Grabline Spider-Man.
Series 5 will have Doctor Doom, Thing, Juggernaut, Civilian Logan, Captain
America, Absorbing Man. Series 6 will have Wolverine, Jean Grey, Hulk,
Leader, Iron Man and Ghost Rider. Series 4 & 5 will be out in January with
series 6 due out in April.
DC Direct will release a twosome of Hush as well as The Huntress
from the recently completed Hush storyline in Batman comics. These will be
out in April. There will be a line of Fan Favorite Justice League characters
due out in December. Look for the likes of Elongated Man, Firestorm, Adam
Strange and The Atom. Lastly DC Direct will release a line of maquettes
based on the Teen Titans cartoon on the Cartoon Network.
I don't think I go a month without a GI Joe report. Look for two
packs of figures called the Venom and Valor line coming out in January. Two packs
will include Heavy Duty and Venom, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow (Everyone's
favorite), Duke and Cobra Commander, Hi-Tech and Dr. Mindbender, Scarlett
and Scorpio, as well a Viper 2 pack.
Star Wars has a whole slew of new figures due out this winter
focusing mostly on the Hoth parts of Empire Strikes Back. There will General Rieekan
and a Wampa with Luke hanging upside down. Also look for C-3P0 with Escape
Pod. There will also be a two pack of figures based on the nightclub scene
from Episode 2. Lastly if you have been living in a cave without cable
television or satellite dish for the past month, you would have seen the
Clone Wars series of shorts running at 7:00pm central time. Why am I
mentioning this you ask? Well, out now are Clone Wars figures from Hasbro.
There will also be out some time next year, cartoon style characters put
out. So if you see them lying around, save a Yoda for me.
The Simpsons keep going strong this next year with Series 15 due out in
January. This time around Playmates will include Deep Space Homer, Brandine
(Cleatus' wife), Handsome Moe, The Octuplets, Manjula and for the first time
outside a playset Comic Book Guy.
Lastly comes a series of action figures based on the Hellboy movie
from Mezco toys. There will be eight inch figures of Hellboy, Abe Sapien, Kroenen
and Rasputen. These four will be out in time for the movies release in
April.
