WHAT I CARE TO SEE

RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE

First off, let's just say that if you didn't like RESIDENT EVIL, don't go see RESIDENT EVIL 2. It's much of the same. That being said, those who are fans of the original, and more importantly, fans of the GAMES, will love this installment! It introduces NEMESIS to those who are in the know, and Jill Valentine. Granted, not everything from a video game works on screen ( some would argue not at all ), but this was a really fun movie despite a couple of bad one-liners and some overly gratuitous action scenes.

EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING

What is most intriguing about this movie is the fact that it was completely reshot to include more "gore," according to studio execs. This also means there is another print of the intended film floating around out there that probably has more actual substance to it. The gore in question includes some very shocking child violence, and IMHO doesn't *add* anything to the story. It does give you an interesting idea of the link between the demon from the original Exorcist and Father Merrin. We were led to believe back then that the demon knew him. However, in the end, we're still not left with an exact link as to how the two come together ( how the demon gets to Reagan in the first place ). One thing that can be said though is that the movie does maintain an uneasy feel which is important for this type of film. One has to wonder how much more plot development there would have been in a movie that concentrated a lot less on gore and violence ( like the original Exorcist ).

SHAUN OF THE DEAD

The British film industry has really flourished in the past few years. Taking on different genres and successfully offering worldwide competition against Hollywood. This can definitely be said about "Shaun of the Dead". This movie is a comedic take on the traditional zombie film ( But don’t call them zombies! ). It deals with Shaun, a lazy slacker who is having relationship trouble, a stagnant career, and he’s all of a sudden stuck in the middle of a zombie epidemic. He and fellow lazy friend Ed, must round up Shauns loved ones and friends and help save the world.

As a fan of zombie flicks, I loved this movie, it was immensely funny. But it does not take a zombie horror fan to enjoy this. It is truly a funny movie that breathes some new life through humour into the genre.
