- Because it would be less work than running one.
- People think I'm a Cthulhu Cultist anyway, I might as well give my character a chance to be one.
- I wouldn't have to worry about coming up with a good background, since the GM will surely count on my character being dead or institutionalized within the first half-dozen sessions anyway.
- It's been far too long since I've heard a GM say "Everyone make a sanity check!"
- It would be a nice break from all of the D&D and L5R I've been playing lately.
- Come on, who wouldn't want to play a Call of Cthulhu game after reading The Haunter in the Dark right before bed?
- It would be a good excuse to wear my "Miskatonic Café" t-shirt. Like I really need an excuse.
- Did I mention sanity checks?
- As if all the Lovecraft I've been reading didn't have me in the mood, John Kovalic had to go and do that "Lovecraft Is . . ." series of comics.
And the number one reason why I want to play a Call of Cthulhu game is . . .
- I'm still trying to live down the fact that my last character ended up in a Mi-Go brain canister . . . by the end of the first session!!!
If none of this makes any sense to you, well, I seriously suggest that you look HP Lovecraft up on Wikipedia, read a few of his stories, and then play some Call of Cthulhu. You'll thank me later.
