July 2006
Some random thoughts for a busy month, which is a creative way of saying that I'm drawing a blank and have no idea what to write about this month.
I guess I need to get a new photo of myself for the bio page here on CT. For the first time in 22 years, I shaved off the beard this past month. My dermatologist found a bit of skin cancer hiding under the edge of the beard, and while what he found was not a serious variety, I decided it made sense to be sure he could see anything else that might be hiding. No more long beard. It'll be short between visits to the dermatologist, and shaved off for each exam.
If there were dice to be rolled for real life, then I don't think I'd want to use Jan Ullrich's dice. Not only was he unfortunate enough to spend many years in the Tour de France during Lance Armstrong's seven straight victories, now that Armstrong has retired, Ullrich was suspended from the Tour this year due to a doping allegation. This is kind of like fighting your way through hordes of undead and evil demons to reach the treasure room, and just as you're about to open the treasure chest, you fail your saving roll against a weak mongbat. I'm not a big fan of Ullrich or the T-Mobile team, but man, that just sucks big time.
Whoo hoo! It's summer movie time! On the "To See" list this month are Pirates of the Caribbean 2, Lady in the Water, My Super Ex-Girlfriend (if it's half as funny as it looks, it will be fun), Click, Nacho Libre, and a few others. Yeah, I know Superman Returns is out too. For some reason, though, that one doesn't appeal to me as much as some others. I probably won't manage to see all of those this month. Heck, I'll be lucky if I see two or three. There are many months, however, when I'm lucky if I can even find one movie in theaters that I'm interested in seeing.
Not much to report on the Writer's Quest this month. I'm currently about 12 chapters into a new story, and am working on revising another. I need to dig up my Writer's Resource book, look up some potential agencies, and send out some queries so I can start collecting my rejection letters. Maybe I should start a pool here at Collector Times on how many rejection slips I'll get before I finally get some interest.
Finally, I'm going to write some congratulations to two couples in our family. First, congratulations to my parents for 50 years of marriage, and second, congratulations to Chris and Jennifer for their wedding. Just to make sure there is no confusion, that is a different Chris than the one married to AJ.
Tune in next month, when I'll hopefully have something intelligent to write.
