Nobody decided to e-mail me about my latest article; I had some good stuff in that one. Go read it now in case you missed it.
Anyway, I just want to comment on the summer movie season and what it has to offer collectors. With Star Wars coming out two years ago and Lucas completing the prequel trilogy, and last summer just sucking in the way of movies, it looks like this summer is going to be much better.
The month of May had three weeks of movies with merchandise tie-ins. Spider-Man 3 which the local Target stores around me has already put some on clearance; Shrek 3, the ending of which was spoiled by my visiting the toy aisle of my local Toys R US, and finally there is Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (whatever it is being called) which is by far the weakest in the way of toys.
June may be a bit of a bust with only two really good movies coming out. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (June 15th) and Live Free or Die Hard (June 27th). I can only see a toy line coming out for the Fantastic Four movie, and the Die Hard series is known more for video games rather than toys and games.
July has the Transformers movie, the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie, and The Simpson's Movie. My local Target stores are already resetting the toy section and stocking the Transformers movie toys. The Transformer toys are supposed to be a reasonable price with the main characters going for $6.99, $9.99 or $14.99 from what I saw at Target. With the Harry Potter crowd growing in age along with the series' protagonist I can't see a lot in the way of toys coming out for the Order of the Phoenix movie. As far as the Simpson's movie goes, I'm not sure what to think, but it will be a cash cow for whatever company makes merchandise for it.
Just to let you all know; this is going to be my next to last month at The Collector Times. It has just gotten to a point where nobody cares, because in the time that I have been writing for the Collector Times I can count on one hand the number of E-mail's I have received that have not been spam, and with nothing coming in over the last eighteen months.
