Welcome to the 10th Anniversary Edition of the Collector Times!
Ten years. When I started this magazine on April Fool's Day 10 years ago, I decided that if I got 200 readers that first month, I would consider the magazine a success. I got 450, and we were off and running. Who knew we'd be here 10 years later, and our readership would be much more than 450 people a month from all over the world? I didn't. Thank you all for making it happen and as Joe Singleton says:
This Anniversary issue I'd like to take this moment to introduce you to The Collector Times Store. Seriously, Joe Singleton initially created it so we could all order t-shirts for The Collector Times jaunt out to ComicCon International this summer. Then we decided that we could throw it open to all of you, in case you wanted Collector Times merchandise. At least you have the option.
Oh, and if anyone buys that Collector Times thong that Joe so optimistically put up there, if you send me a photo of you in it I personally promise I will put you on the front page of my magazine, as long as all of your nasty bits are covered. We on The Collector Times staff are howling mightily over The Official Collector Times Thong, and we will be proud to display you in it to the entire world!
And because our 10th Anniversary doesn't come around but once, I have another beautiful piece of art for you done by long time CT artist Brett Schmidt:
What other special things can you find this month? Well, aside from all of the regular columns that you
know and love, we have some special goodies mixed in. I asked The Collector Times staff for their favorite
TV shows, movies and books, and
got an astounding variety of responses. I'll probably have to check out some new things, and I hope you'll
find enjoyable discoveries there as well.
This month also marks the official cover date of the 50th year of The Legion of Superheroes. Yes, all
you anal retentive fanboys and fangirls can send me emails informing me that Adventure #247 actually
hit the stands earlier than this month, but I have a genuine copy of Adventure #247 in my hands and
it says April, 1958. I also bought it for $5 in the 1970's, so there!:P The cover date conveniently
coincides with my magazine's 10th anniversary so I'm celebrating it this month the way I want to.
Interestingly enough, when I sent out the call for Legion tributes, I ended
up with several people's contributions. We all started reading the Legion
in different incarnations, so I guess we all have somewhat different takes. It's probably also the
most personal piece of writing I've ever done for this magazine and what better time than this issue?
Last but certainly not least, I would like to welcome new writer Ian Melton to The Collector Times family.
Ian came to me via email, and asked if he could write for me. I said "yes." Ian tells me that his
expertise is in manga and comic history. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised to find his article on
The Elements of Manga informative and entertaining (when the webmaster puts it up later today). I actually
learned something new, and I'm very pleased have Ian aboard.
Wouldn't you know it? I also have a new artist for my art gallery! Welcome Rene Maldonado! Check out the art gallery tomorrow.
Yes, folks . . . that's all you need to do to write for me. Email me and ask. As most of you know, this
is a labor of love here. It may say ".com," but it's a volunteer organization. We do this because we want
to, and we write what we want to. We don't have to write for our advertisers because we have none. If
you make us rich by purchasing stuff from The Collector Times Store (hahaha, I crack me up!) I'll be
sharing the wealth among our long suffering writers and artists, believe me.
Man, I could go on and on and on this month, but I think I'll stop now and let you look at all the great
stuff yourself! Thanks for making this 10th anniversary possible, and I hope you'll keep coming back for
more:)
